I have always been fascinated by the natural world. My greatest joy is creating nature art with nature itself - hard-shelled gourds. The individual uniqueness of each gourd's size, shape, and natural surface markings inspires each design.
I enjoy a pleasant walk in the woods, and the thrill of observing wildlife first hand. I find it interesting to learn about an animal's food source and habitat, because understanding it enables me to depict the subject of my art with accuracy. Prior to my discovery of gourds, I painted wildlife in acrylic and scratchboard. My artwork has exhibited in galleries in Connecticut and Massachusetts, as well as the Salmagundi Club in New York City and the Museum of Art and History in Santa Cruz, California.
In 2001, I wrote, illustrated, and self published an educational childrens book about the life cycle of a monarch butterfly, titled "Memories of a Monarch". The book was the culmination of research and first hand observation, raising many monarchs from egg to butterfly.
